The Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage plans available to you will depend on where you live (your plan's Service Area) - and can change year-to-year. Over 20 stand-alone Medicare Part D plan options are usually available each year, but the number of Medicare Advantage plans will depend on your county or Zip Code region.
For example, back in 2008 United HealthCare had two Georgia stand-alone Medicare Part D plans available: UnitedHealth Rx Basic ($0 deductible) and UnitedHealth Rx Value ($275 deductible). Ten years later, in 2018, United HealthCare offers three stand-alone Medicare Part D plans co-branded with AARP:
AARP MedicareRx Walgreens (PDP) - S5921-392 with a $405 deductible for Tier 3, 4, 5 drugs,
AARP MedicareRx Walgreens (PDP) - S5921-392 with a $405 deductible applicable to all drug tiers, and
AARP MedicareRx Preferred (PDP) - S5820-009 with a higher premium and a $0 deductible.
In comparison, there are 101 Medicare Advantage plan options available to 2023 residents of
DeKalb County, GA, but in
Lowndes County, Georgia, there are only 40 Medicare Advantage plans available in 2023.
Bottom line: Each year, the number of Medicare plans can change and Medicare Part D or
Medicare Advantage plans offered in the past may no longer be available
in future years - plus Medicare plan availability will depend on where you live - so you need to review your Medicare plan options each year.
