Prior to 2021, the Maryland SPDAP Coverage Gap Subsidy worked as follows:
Once you reach the Coverage Gap, you would still go to your same pharmacy and purchase your prescriptions with your normal Medicare Part D membership card. Then depending on which of the 22 approved Medicare Part D plans you have, you may need to pay up to a 25% co-payment for your medications and SPDAP will pay the remainder until you have used up your $1,200 subsidy.
The SPDAP representative (1-800-551-5995) said that the only way to find out what your co-payment would be is to ask the pharmacy (they can tell you at the time of purchase) or to call your Medicare Part D Plan. I spoke with AdvantraRx (1-866-823-5177). They were not able to tell me what your co-payment would be without having the medication list. They suggested that you call Medco at 1-877-640-7938 (their formulary administrator) and ask to "price your prescriptions". You will need to have your member id and a list of your medications including the name, strength, quantity.
Just as a note, as a member of the Maryland SPDAP, you are permitted to change Medicare Part D plans one additional time per year even if it is during the Coverage Gap phase of your plan. For a list of participating plans, please see: http://marylandspdap.com/spdap-you/spdap-subsidies/
