All existing Medicare Part D plans will begin again in January 2007.

Being the first year for Medicare Part D plans, 2006 had an extended enrollment period (Initial Open Enrollment Period) that began on November 15, 2005 and continued to May 15, 2006.

Enrollment for 2007 Medicare Part D plans takes place in a only a little more than a 6 week period. Enrollment begins on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 and will continue until Sunday, December 15, 2006. New 2007 Part D coverage will begin Monday, January 1, 2007.

For people who enrolled late in 2006, this first year of coverage will be rather short. Accordingly, you should check your existing Part D plan to ensure that it is still the most cost effective over a 12 month period.

Starting in 2011, the Annual Coordinated Election Period will run from October 15th through December 7th of each year with new plan coverage beginning on January 1st of the following year.
