According to the 2015 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Part D landscape data, Medicare beneficiaries will have slightly fewer stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan choices in 2015.
In 2015, an average of 29 stand-alone Medicare Part D plans (not including Medicare Advantage plans) are being offered in each state across the country.
In comparison, (as shown in the chart below) there were an average of 34 stand-alone 2014 Medicare Part D plans (not including Medicare Advantage plans) and 31 stand-alone 2013 Medicare Part D plans - as compared to the average of 49 stand-alone Medicare Part D plans offered in each region during the
2009 plan year.
A detailed overview of the Medicare Part D landscape data can be found in the
Q1Medicare.com PDP-Facts section with Part D plan summaries on a national and state level.
The state with largest selection of 2015 stand-alone Medicare Part D plans will be
Illinois, with 33 PDP plans available -- a fairly significant decrease from the
38 different Medicare Part D plans offered in 2014.
Alternatively, Medicare beneficiaries in Alaska will have the most limited choice with only 24 prescription drug plans, down four plans from the 28 plans that were available in 2014.
Pennsylvania and West Virginia will see the net loss of 10 stand-alone Medicare Part D plans in 2015.
Last year, Pennsylvania and West Virginia had the largest selection of 2014 Medicare Part D plans with 34 plans offered, which was still a reduction in plans from the 38 different Medicare Part D plans offered by these states in 2013.
A complete listing of all the 2015 Medicare Part D plans offered in each state can be found at PDP-Finder.com/2015.
