April 2015 Summary of the Most Recent Updates for the Medicare Part D Plan Formularies (Drug Lists) Part 2

Category: Monthly Formulary Changes
Published: May, 05 2015 08:05:12

The most recent (April 2015) Medicare Part D plan formulary data (or drug lists) updates include the addition of 360 new National Drug Codes (NDC) to the Medicare Part D program.  These represent 216 different drugs, many with multiple strengths or delivery forms. The summary below is reflective of all 360 NDCs, However, since there are so many new NDCs we need to break the NDC details chart into two parts.  Go to the Part 1 blog for the details of the drug in the first 180 new NDCs. This blog details the remaining 180 NDCs.

The NDC uniquely identifies a particular drug, manufacturer, strength, and packaging combination. The NDC is often shown on your prescription bottle as an 11-digit code (see the charts below) or could be formatted as 00000-0000-00 where the first set of numbers identifies the manufacturer, the second set of number identifies the product and strength, and the third set of numbers identifies the packaging.

There are many reasons for NDCs to be added to the Medicare Part D program, a summary is a follows:

Reason for NDC Addition Occurrences
New Delivery Form 10
New Delivery Form and Strength 16
New Drug 76
New Drug and Delivery Form 6
New Drug and Strength 121
New Drug, Manufacturer, Delivery Form and Strength 5

New Manufacturer 6
New Manufacturer and Delivery Form 6
New Manufacturer and Delivery Form and Strength 21

New Package 1
New Strength 57
Total New NDCs 360

The following 180 manufacturer / drug / strength / packaging combinations (NDCs) were added to one or more Medicare Part D formularies in the most recent updates. You can click on the Drug Name below to go to our Q1Medicare.com DrugFinder to see the details of how this drug is handled by all Medicare Part D Plans in Florida -- You can then change the state to your state for details in your service area. Go to the Part 1 blog for links to the drug in the first 180 new NDCs.
